CIS 363 Lab Assignement #1

Due: 2/3/2010

Windows Instructions:

Download the world.sql file.

From the mysql> prompt (make sure you use the command line version) execute the script with source command. 

Assuming a directory of c:\sql

Start the mysql daemon from the mysql install directory\bin\mysqld.exe

Start a command prompt (cmd) from start ==> run ==> cmd

Start mysql from cmd,   C:\> mysql

at the mysql> prompt type use test

mysql> source c:\sql\world.sql

Linux / Unix instructions:

log into your linux account, server: csmcis2.smccd.edu    -- If you don't have a login please let me know and I will get one for you.

at the mysql> prompt type use test

mysql> source ~timlin/world.sql

 

This should create the tables from the book and populate them.

Turn in the SQL statements and output for each of the following:

1.  SELECT COUNT(*) FROM Country;

2.  SELECT COUNT(*) FROM CountryLanguage;

3.  SELECT COUNT(*) FROM City;
